Autumn Hike in Val de Fanes Dolomiti
I found myself alone with a smile on a warm Dolomites Autumn morning in October of 2021. Normally this canyon is overcrowded to a point quality photography is nearly impossible, but on this day not one person did I encounter. I always carry via ferrata gear on any hike in the Dolomites, but the risk of climbing rock walls alone in such areas is not a wise adventure.

Summer, Spring and Fall Trekking and Camping Clothing
Ever changing high altitude conditions in the Alps require four season items for any lengthy excursion in summer, spring and fall. Layering is the best approach with light weight synthetic clothes that wick moisture, guard against body odor and dry quickly. Always avoid cotton and feathered down clothing as when wet these articles are near worthless and life threatening.

Trekking and Wild Camping in the Alps
Trekking | Wild Camping in the Alps
In America, we hike from designated campground to designated campground, especially inside National Parks, and mostly with a required fee permit from the National Park Service. There are no fees to enter the National Parks of the Alps and use the expansive trail systems. In the Alps, multi-day ultralight backpacking could mean carrying 5 to 8 pounds including some snacks and water with a 24 liter backpack if one is bouncing from hut to hut.
